This book presents the first systematic classification of Mandarin verbs within a rigorously defined modern generative framework, Lexical-Functional Grammar (LFG). The book also presents a variant formalism where unification takes place at the same time as partial constituent structures are constructed. This allows earlier detection of functional structure violations, including incoherence of grammatical functions. The book thus makes a significant contribution to the study of Mandarin grammar and lexicon as well as its computational applications.
